In the six-day 17th “Lee and Li Moot Court Debate,” held by Soochow’s School of Law from October 23rd to 28th, students from the Institute of Technology Law, National Chiao Tung University, won the championship as a dark horse who participated in the event for the first time. Students from SCU’s Law Department finished the fourth among the fourteen teams from different universities nationwide, while Yu-Feng Tsai, a fourth-year law major, was awarded the best debater of this year.

The SCU team consisted of five law majors in their fourth or fifth year: Hung-Yu Su, Ting-Ya Chuang, Yun-Han Kuo, Wei-Lung Chen and Yu-Feng Tsai, and all of them were elite selected from the School of Law. They debated over the topic “Dispute Issues in Corporation’s Merger and Acquisition,” which is rather unfamiliar to college students because of its high professionalism and the varied opinions between industries and academics on it. With the help and guidance from Professor Ju-Yin Chen, the team searched through every useful resource, debated among themselves, clarified the points, and consulted with many law experts, professors and senior schoolmates before nabbing the fourth place in the end.

With the promise and support by Professor Chang-Wen Chen, Lee and Li Attorneys-at Law and SCU alumna Yong-Fen Li of Lee and Li Foundation, the 18th and 19th Moot Court Debate will continue to be hosted by Soochow’s School of Law. It is anticipated that more outstanding teams from schools around the country will compete at SCU again while the host school will work harder to earn better results and honors.
