Digital Learning Course by Prof. Hin-Chung Wong of Microbiology Dept. Wins MOE Certification

A distance education course titled “Readers and Reports of Selected Theses and Dissertations” offered by Professor Hin-Chung Wong of Soochow’s Department of Microbiology had been successfully certified by the Ministry of Education as one of its digital learning courses in the academic year of 2017-18. This is Soochow’s second course that passed the certification after Teacher Training Center's Professor Kwang-Jen Lai won the honor with his "Education Philosophy" course in the academic year of 2014-15.

On behalf of the University, SCU President Wei-Ta Pan awarded Wong a certificate of merit and a bonus of NT$ 30,000. Wong accredited his success to President Pan’s encouragement in the beginning that pushed him to start producing this distance learning course. He also thanked Pei-Fang Lee and Xing-Miao Liu, assistants of Instructional Technology Division, for their help during the course design and submission procedures. Pan hoped Wong can share his experience in producing his distance education course and serve as a model for other teachers.

Digital learning courses are a new type of curriculum model emerging with the rise of Internet technology. Mostly in the form of asynchronous online lectures, such courses allow students to learn without the limitations in time and location. In order to improve and ensure the quality of digital learning courses across universities and colleges in the country, the Ministry of Education has initiated a certification mechanism for these online courses since 2006. The certification process is so rigorous that those successfully certified are truly quality-guaranteed.
