On May 9th, Soochow University’s SuZhou Photographs Association (SZPA) invited the famous photographer Shin Wu to the school’s Downtown Campus to share his own experiences and attitudes toward life, and to answer SCU students’ questions about photography and life.
Once kicked out in his college days, Wu almost gave up photography, his beloved interest. Fortunately, with the thought that “only through broad learning and reading can one find sooner what he or she loves and is good at,” Wu started to read extensively about photography and research the market on his own. Although his first job after graduation from college was about social network marketing for a photography website, he learned a great deal from some experienced professional photographers during the time, which had contributed to the growth of his skills both in photo-shooting and marketing.
“I hated going to school, and I didn’t like the dull life working in an office, either,” said Wu, who, therefore, established a workshop called “Burn the Soul of Photography.” He has since been sharing on the Internet his photo-shooting and post-production techniques, with his article posts luring more than four million hits so far. Now Wu not only takes pictures, but also teaches about cellphone photography and filming. He encouraged all the students not to put limits on themselves but to explore more possibilities and potentials in their lives.
Wu pointed out that accumulating capabilities, creating value with altruism, and persisting along are the three key factors that would create opportunities and profits. He suggested that whatever jobs or aspects one is working on, he or she must figure out the goals and then put efforts in fulfilling them, and keep trying and adjusting directions. He defined dream as that while one chases his or her dream, he or she should bring positive strength to others and help them change themselves. There is no finish line for a dream, which will only keep expanding its territory, instead. He encouraged the students to see and record every beauty in their life with a camera and a beautiful heart. That’s how he lives his life with his passion for photography.
