Soochow University’s “Alumni-Assisted Internship Project” kicked off in May, 2018, and has provided SCU students with on-campus training lessons and off-campus internship opportunities, all contributed by numerous alumni. Over 20 enterprises or companies have been offering intern positions in the first month since the project began, helping would-be graduates experience the real job market and increase their competitiveness.

Starting from the fall semester this year, SCU Chief Secretary-cum-Director of Office of Social Resource Shu-Fang Wang offers a course titled “Internships and the Cultivation of Abilities.” By establishing a supervising system with experienced teachers as consultants, Wang hopes to cultivate students’ correct attitudes toward internship as well as at workplace in their future careers.

The internship offers received by this project come from more than 20 companies associated with Soochow alumni in Taiwan and Mainland China across various sectors, such as finance, legal business, retail, cultural industry, Internet marketing, and global logistics. Some of the enterprises are renowned businesses in Asia or globally, including Wistron Corp., Maxpeed Co., Ltd., Dimerco Express Group, Huan Wei PR Consultant Co., Ltd., Lewis law firm, Fubon Futures, etc. Some companies also provide local assistance to help students cope with their life in a foreign place. After finishing their internship, students will review and share their work experiences to complete a healthy cycle of internship.

According to a 2018 Cheer Magazine survey of 2000 employers, new graduates with internship experiences will be 73% more likely to get a job than those inexperienced. In view of this, SCU will not only maintain a pragmatic style of education but also enhance students’ interdisciplinary skills by cooperating with alumni’s enterprises to foster future talents, in hopes of setting a great example of a collaboration between academia and industry.
