Alumni Home and Abroad Help Soochow Fight COVID-19

As the Coronavirus pandemic spreads globally, Soochow University set up an anti-epidemic team during the Chinese New Year holidays on January 24^th, 2020, and has since been receiving assistance and medical aids from many alumni overseas and domestically, who are undoubtedly a solid force that has helped the alma mater in this battle against the deadly disease.

Charles T. Ku (Dept. of English, class of 1965), who is currently a dentist in the U.S. and the former president of the Dallas Alumni Association of SCU, gave away 2,500 medical masks to Soochow. He also donated 4,700 medical masks to Central China Normal University (CCNU) in Hubei Province, China. Dominic P. Lu (Dept. of English, class of 1963) sent 550 masks and 600 gloves to SCU. He is now a clinical professor of University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Here in Taiwan, alumnus Yung-Ming Chen (Dept. of Political Science, class of 1987) also donated 400 masks to Soochow.

Tian-Ji Dai (Dept. of Microbiology, class of 1996), the head of the world’ s biggest Enoki mushroom farm, Dai Fungus Garden Farm, contributed 400 liters of hypochlorous acid water for disinfection of all the laboratories in the alma mater. In addition, "Deli Food Co., Ltd.", which is located at Zhonghe District, New Taipei City, provided Soochow with hypochlorous acid water free of charge, which has been used in sterilizing all the handrails, floors,  classroom desks and chairs on campus.

Soochow truly appreciated the help from these alumni and contributors who have donated disease prevention resources. These supplies will be kept by the Office of General Affairs, and  will be assigned to the first-line staff, Hong Kong and Macau students returning from abroad, international exchange students, personnel at the checkpoints for measuring temperatures, janitors and administrative staff under home isolation or quarantine. Soochow also gave away 1,223 cloth masks and filter materials to the alumni overseas in order to help them get through the crisis.
