Students from SCU’s School of Big Data Management outperformed numerous teams of other universities and won the second place, or Best Creative Award, along with the prize money of NTD 60,000 in AI Cup 2019.
Under the guidance of Professor Jheng-Long Wu, seven senior students from SCU’s School of Big Data Management, including Kai-Xuan Liu, Jian-Jun Lai, Rong Cao, Ji-Sheng Yang, Min-Ci Huang, Yu-Xuan Jian and Yi-Jun Xie, stood out in the category of “Application of News Stance Search” by designing a platform that is capable of automatically integrating and analyzing information from multiple online news media.
The seven-member team nicknamed “Two Plus Five” came up with the idea as they find that with an increasing level of civil awareness, more and more people are concerned about social issues. This had inspired the students to design this data retrieval platform with a fuzzy search function in the hopes of optimizing the quality of its information search through user experience.
This platform can help users efficiently find the issues they are interested in, and analyze the news and offer both positive and negative points of view, allowing users to immediately see the distribution of different standpoints as well as the trends of specific issues. With its mature application of technology, innovative ideas, comprehensive planning and easy-to-understand prototype of system, the platform created by the SCU team won the favor of the judges.
Held by the Ministry of Education, Artificial Intelligence Competition of National Universities and Colleges, also known as AI Cup 2019, aims to cultivate students’ ability to solve AI problems and implement AI into the field of education.
