Soochow’s athletic faculty and staff shone again at the 2020 intercollege basketball tournament held from August 27th to 30th in Chinese Culture University (PCCU). The SCU players finished 7th in the C-Level (age 40 to 49), and won championship in the D-Level (age 50 and more) with a ninth title in the school history.
Participating in the C-Level for the first time, the Soochow team, composed of seven players led by Dean of the Office of Student Affairs Kuen-Chang Lee, advanced to the final eight with 2nd place in its group by rallying to beat the PCCU team 39-35. In the first game of final-eight round, Soochow tried their best to compete against the defending champion National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), which was led by a former national volleyball player, winning the 7th place in the end.
In a more dominant form, the SCU team in the D-Level eased into the final, where they also faced NTUST, the level’s defending champ. With better 3-point field goal percentage and great defense and teamwork, the 10 players, led by Dean of Office of Research Development Chih-Chieh Wang, clinched the win and the title with a final score 52-41.
Founded more than two decades ago, the Soochow faculty and staff basketball team had nabbed eight championship trophies in the D-Level (2004, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2018). This year they did it again with a ninth title added under their belt.
Also important were the logistics from Head of Physical Education Activities Division Hui-Fang Wu and other staff of the Office of Physical Education, and the cheers from many other SCU members including Vice President Bau-Tscheng Dung, Dean of the Office of Social Resource, Alumni Service and Career Development Shu-Fang Wang, and Dean of the Office of General Affairs Joann Chuang.
