As Soochow University turns 120 this year, students and alumni from the orchestra and chorus of the school and the Department of Music put together an impressive performance to celebrate the milestone on October 9th, 2020 at National Concert Hall in Taipei. Co-organized by the Department of Music and the Office of Social Resource and Alumni Service, the show attracted an audience of more than 1,600 alumni home and abroad, faculty and staff, as well as students.
Songs performed in the program included A Traveler's Lament by Johannes Brahms, Goin' Home by Antonín Leopold Dvořák, and Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 by Ludwig van Beethoven. To commemorate Beethoven’s 250th birthday, students in the Department of Music had been playing series of his nine symphonies for the past three years. This year, they wrapped it up with a perfect end by playing Symphony No. 9 in D minor to celebrate Soochow’s 120th Anniversary at the same time.
In addition to the brilliant show by the outstanding performers, the success of the event must also be attributed to the effective teamwork from the crews behind the scenes. With the full support of every contributor, the concert marking the golden anniversary was rounded off with the joint singing of the school anthem filling the space.
