As recent increase of dorm fees raised concern, the University had its administrative meeting off-campus for the first time on November 30th, 2020, at Chuan-Szu House near Beitou MRT station to show and explain how Soochow had been making efforts to promote quality accommodations for students.
Dean of Student Affairs Kuen-Chang Lee stressed that the school’s seven dormitories (three on campus and four off the campus) have strived to create comfortable, safe and warm living conditions and constantly offer educational activities. For years, as high as 90% of dorm residents express satisfaction about the student housing, Lee said.
As the newest and most modern one of SCU’s dormitories, Chuan-Szu House is a ten-story building with rooms for one, two, or four persons each. The complex is operated as a co-ed dorm with male students living on the 2nd to 4th floors while female students on the 5th to 8th floors. Its front desk service counter assists residents from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. every day, and there’s also 24-hour access control to ensure students’ security.
In terms of short-term goals, the school will maintain the quality of life in the dorms by regularly inspecting the safety equipment, such as the digital computer monitoring system, the access control sensor system, the emergency alarm, the broadcasting system, and the anti-theft alarm. For mid- and long-term goals, the school will seek more accommodations off the campus to overcome the long-existing problem of limited land.
