Soochow’s Department of Business Administration collaborated with Seinan Gakuin University (SGU) in Fukuoka, Japan and offered an all English instruction course “Design and Lean Management” instructed by Assistant Professor Jien-Jou Lin in the academic year of 2020-21. The completed course hit the headline on the news site of SGU and the Japanese education media, Newspaper Daigaku shinbun (大学新聞).

In this class, students of SU and SGU teamed up and formed several groups for the independent study in design and entrepreneurship. Each week, the students were required to hold a video conference in English to discuss their report in order to sharpen their English communication skills, to cultivate cross-cultural competence and to build an international social network. Their final reports and performance were reviewed and commented by Lin and Professor Chung-I Wang of Department of Commerce of SGU.

The rare cross-national program was favorably reviewed by many of the students who took the course. SU plans to forge collaboration with Faculty of Commerce of SGU and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences to offer similar international courses for more chances of academic exchange and cooperation between Japan, Taiwan and the Netherlands.

In response to the recently announced policy of “Bilingual Nation,” the Ministry of Education in Taiwan will launch its new plan of bilingual learning for universities in September. This international course well represented SU’s early deployment by collaborating with SGU.
