Despite a drizzly morning, Soochow University celebrated its 122nd birthday on March 26th, 2022, in high spirits with a dazzling series of activities. Among them, the most anticipated event must be the visit and exhibition match by the Olympic gold medalists of men’s doubles badminton Chi-Ling Wang and Yang Lee as they drew a full house of SU teachers and students.

SU’s unique “The Third Mile” round-island cycling event also officially set sail on the day of the school’s anniversary celebration with 122 bikers hitting the road among loud cheers and warm blessings that fully demonstrated Soochow’s spirit and energy.

In this year’s creative march by all departments, administrative units, and alumni, students of the Department of Microbiology donned white lab coats with a mascot while accounting majors dressed like domestic animals.

The student dormitory also presented a carnival themed “Time Travel Mission— Code: Human Rights,” which brought everyone on a journey back in time to learn about the life story of Nelson Mandela, the former President of South Africa and a revolutionary leader of human rights.

In another corner of Waishuanghsi campus, the Japanese Tea Ceremony Club reproduced a tea feast with cherry blossom viewing experience right inside the school, adding some poetic atmosphere to the celebration.

The “Basketball and Volleyball All-Star Games” were also an eye-catcher to all Soochowers, while other events, including a concert on March 16th featuring the famous folk singer Chien-Fu Li, all contributed to this year’s joyful celebration.
