As FinTech Center of Soochow University co-organized Google Cloud Fintech Seminar with CloudMile, a Taiwanese startup, on August 30, distinguished guests from Google Cloud and CloudMile paid a visit to Soochow University in the morning and expressed their gratitude for the support from SCU and Franklin Templeton Investments Corp.
The guests included Aruna P. Withane, Chief Compliance Officer in Google Asia-Pacific Region, James Tien, Sales Manager of Google Cloud Taiwan Region, Spencer Liu, CEO of CloudMile, and Pin Chou, Client Manager of CloudMile. They were greeted by SCU President Wei-Ta Pan, Tsu-Tan Fu, Dean of SCU’s School of Business, and three others from FinTech Center of Soochow University, including Director Da-Bai Shen, CEO Tzong-Rong Tsai, and Vice CEO, Fang-Shu Chan.
Also present were Vice General Managers of Franklin Templeton Investments Corp. Ya-Hsin Chu and Shih-Shun Chen, and Manager Chien-Jung Chuang. Issues such as data security, privacy protection and possible applications in medical technology were discussed in this pre-seminar meeting.
In the FinTech Seminar in the afternoon at Mandarin Oriental Taipei Hotel, Shan-Cheng Chang, Honorary Dean of SCU’s School of Big Data Management, and Fu-Longe Tsai, Executive Secretary of FinTech Office, Financial Supervisory Commission, R.O.C. were invited to give opening remarks. Other speakers included Kathy Lee, Managing Director of Google Cloud North Asia, Reza Rokni, Chief Scientist of Google Cloud Global FSI, and Aruna P. Withane as well as other experts from KPMG and CloudMile.
On August 31, representatives from Google Cloud also visited Financial Supervisory Commission to exchange views on laws and regulations related to cloud service and financial technology. The pleasant talk was hosted by Cheng-Mount Cheng, FSC Vice Chairman, who was accompanied by Tzong-Rong Tsai, Fu-Longe Tsai and Li-Chun Wang, Deputy Director of FSC’s Banking Bureau, and other officials.
In order to show gratitude toward Taiwanese government’s support to Google Cloud, Google founded a data center in Taiwan in April, 2012, and has started to increase its investments in Taiwan in 2017 and worked with the Taiwanese startup, CloudMile, as its only Google Cloud-based strategic partner in Asia. FinTech Center of Soochow University has been seeking opportunities to work with different startups in financial technology since its foundation in 2016.
