SCU Debate Club outperformed twenty-three teams to win the “11th Intercollegiate Debating Competition” hosted by Taipei City Government from October 20th to 22nd on the topic of “Taiwanese Government Ethics Officials Should Be in an Independent Position.”
Before the debates started, Sheng-Wei Lin, the leader of SCU Debate Club from Department of Philosophy, stated that the competition would surely be exciting with other delegations around the world, and it could be tough for SCU Debate Club to stand out in the crowd of such elites. But with sufficient preparation and guidance of the coach, he added, SCU Debate Club would have the confidence to perform well and build precious friendship with the rivals in the competition.
On the opening ceremony, Wei-Ta Pan, President of SCU, welcomed overseas and domestic master debaters and wished the best for the competition. Chao-Kai Tseng, Chief Secretary of Agency Against Corruption and Feng-Liang Shen, Commissioner of Department of Government Ethics also expressed their expectation, hoping that everyone could get to know more about national integrity system and think critically on this issue.
After three days of intense competition in Soochow University, SCU Debate Club won the championship. The second place was taken by National Taipei University, while Shih Hsin University and National Defense Medical Center snatched the third and fourth place respectively.
