On July 22nd, 2019, Soochow University signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with National Palace Museum to offer general education courses on art and culture, marking an official partnership for the two parties. Starting from the autumn semester in 2019, teachers and resources in and off the Museum and the University will jointly provide curriculums of Innovation and Application of Cultural Relics as a Second Specialty Program in General Education with eight courses for a total of 16 credits.
Assisted by professional lecturers and research fellows from different niches in the field of art and culture, the program is designed to enhance students’ cultural literacy and inspire their aesthetic ability through a variety of courses including “General Introduction of Chinese Art,” “Public Relations of Museum and Media,” “Identification and Scientific Research of Cultural Relics,” “Treasures in the National Palace Museum,” etc.
The proximity to National Palace Museum in location avails Soochow of sufficient lecturers and research materials to further their cooperation with the art and cultural circles. The University hopes to familiarize students with Chinese art and culture and cultivate students’ aesthetic and innovative capabilities. Students are expected to can learn how to preserve ancient relics with scientific ways and expand their horizons about bringing ancient relics into modern life.
