Soochow University’s first shared space for student club offices will soon begin its operation in the first semester of 109 academic year. Located at the basement of Building Two at Downtown Campus, the new area is expected to provide diversified use for student clubs on a concept of sharing economy.
The 1,049-square-feet space consists of 3 multi-purpose classrooms, 1 dance room, 1 group practice room, 3 equipment rooms and club administrative offices. Its relocation was a result of food courts and dining area being moved to the first to third floor of Building Six for legal operation and better use.
In February, Student Association and representatives of student clubs exchanged views with Vice President Bau-Tscheng Dung, Dean of Office of General Affairs Joann Chuang, and staff of Community and Interpersonal relationship Development Center in the meeting. They made an innovative decision that the space and resources will be flexibly shared by all clubs rather than in fixed allocation arrangements.
Since April, students have begun the preparation for office relocation and all the cleaning jobs, as well as discussions for the detailed planning and usage of the space. Due to the impact of COVID-19 outbreak, the relocation process, originally scheduled to start in June, was postponed and hopefully would be completed during the first semester of 109 academic year.
