About 82 SCU’s foreign students now in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau who graduated this year but couldn’t come back for the graduation ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic received a gift kit from the University.
To compensate for their missed chance of bidding farewell in person to their classmates and teachers in Taiwan, the Office of Social Resource, Office of International and Cross-Strait Academic Exchange and the Alumni Association collaboratively prepared three graduation gifts.
They included a stuffed bear, a luggage strap and a crystal stamp, along with a greeting card from President Wei-Ta Pan. The school hoped to show their care for these overseas graduates, who will then feel the warmth and begin their new journey into the future with blessings.
As the outbreak of Coronavirus has swept the world since January this year, Taiwan and many other countries around the world have banned foreign students from re-entering as a pandemic prevention measure. Nearly 500 Soochow’s foreign students from China, Hong Kong and Macau couldn’t physically return to the island and start the semester. The school had eased course election rules and established remote classes to ensure overseas students’ right to education.
