Having helped 460 students with a total amount of NT$ 2.3 million for over 30 years, Tien-Fu Kao Club Service Scholarship had its last awardees in a flag presentation ceremony on January 21st, 2021, and will be no longer offered since the second semester of 2020 academic year.
The Scholarship was established in 1987 by Chien-Wen Kao, a senior alumnus of Department of English Language and Literature (Class of 1969) to commemorate his father’s unremitting cultivation and to encourage the students who devote themselves to club service while keeping excellent record in academic performance at the same time.
One of Soochow’s 1st "Outstanding Alumni," Kao mentioned in SCU Alumni’s Diary, published by Art Center, that college students should develop independent thinking and manage their time effectively. He also suggested that students provide volunteer services during summer/winter breaks and further think how to expand the love and the help they received from the clubs to the whole society.
Former recipients of the Scholarship, including a Japanese major surnamed Lin and a law major surnamed Yuan, said that they will continuously dedicate themselves to club services and hope that one day they could give back to SU and the society, just like Kao, a role model who has given his support to Soochow for more than three decades.
