With the Chinese New Year approaching, over 330 exchange students to Soochow University received warm surprises from the Office of International and Cross-Strait Academic Exchange (OICAE) in late January, 2021. Red envelopes and a live interactive lottery had helped this year’s event set new records for the Office in the number of participants and text responses.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many exchange students could not go back to their countries for the winter break or Lunar New Year; therefore, the OICAE decided to give warmth to and create holiday atmosphere for those students with some new year celebration activities.
The students were given not only a red envelope of NT$300 but also a gift by checking in on the Office’s Facebook page. They also entered a lucky draw by interacting with the staff through live streaming and leaving the designated message: “Hope to go home in 2021.”
The live streaming of the raffle on January 20th drew a record high of 121 viewers and 733 entries of interactive messages in all online events held by the OICAE.
Director of the OICAE Shih-Ho Wang hoped that the event could give overseas students an “undiscounted” feel of the holiday season. He also reminded the students of staying healthy and safe while enjoying a happy winter vacation.
