President Wei-Ta Pan, on behalf of SU, signed an interdisciplinary cooperation agreement with Mackay Medical College (MMC) on March 25th, 2021. MMC President Jie-Jen Lee also demonstrated Mackay’s instrument room, anatomy laboratory, and distance learning center, which would play a significant role in the cross-school teaching and learning in the coming years.

The most popular courses in Soochow favored by medical students of Mackay are definitely classes offered by SU’s Law School. With the increasingly complicated doctor-patient relationship, medical malpractice disputes and lawsuits have become more common. Today, doctors have to acquire legal knowledge, particularly the rights of patients and themselves, in addition to their medical expertise.

According to the MOU signed by the two schools last year, SU will offer forensic medicine-related elective courses in the short term, forensic medicine program in the medium term, and a government-financed bachelor degree, a forensic-related Post baccalaureate degree, and the graduate program of forensic medicine in the long term.

Also, with the advent of so-called 5G era, Soochow’s Information Security Center could possibly work with Mackay on eHealth to improve the treatment of patients suffering from Parkinson’s disease through advanced MRI technique.

Soochow, known for its humanities, law and business programs, and Mackay, a prestigious medical education institute, will sure complement each other in providing students with a learning environment with a great variety and better quality of courses.
