Soochow University emerged victorious in the 2021 University Faculty/Staff Basketball Tournament held in National Chung Hsing University from November 12th to 14th, with its two teams winning the first and third place respectively in two divisions, including the school’s 10th championship in over 20 years of participation in this annual competition.
In Division C (for players 40 to 49 years old), led by Dean of the Office of Student Affairs Kun-Chang Li, Soochow faced opponents from National Sun Yat-sen University, Hwa Hsia University of Technology, and National Chung Hsing University, the home team of this year, and yet the six-player group snatched a bronze after only two years since the team’s formation.
Spearheaded by Dean of the Office of Research Development Chih-Chieh Wang, another team of eight Soochow faculty and administrative members made it to the championship game to play against the home team in Division D (for players 50 years old and older). Taking a small lead in the first half of the game, the team continued to push forward in the second half, and successfully clinched the title in the end.
In the past two decades, Soochow’s faculty/staff basketball team has made it a tradition to always pray before each game and have strategy discussions after each game during the tournament every year, in addition to the frequent and rigorous training every Thursday in the school’s gym. And it is clear that such dedication and hard work have paid off well.
