Kanako Mukasa, a Japanese student of SU’s Chinese Language Center, was awarded first prize in the International Division of 52nd National Chinese Calligraphy Competition of Tian Wen Temple (Kaohsiung) earlier this year. Since her admission to Soochow in October, 2021, Mukasa has earned great results in three calligraphy contests in Taiwan.
The other two awards were the select work in 2022 Chinese New Year Calligraphy Festival in the division of college students and general public (adults), and the excellent award in 25th Chung Yuan Cup Chinese Calligraphy Competition in the division of general public (adults).
Mukasa had majored in Chinese Language and Literature at Nishogakusha University with Chinese calligraphy as her academic focus. She has not merely studied hard on academic subjects but also showed her talent in calligraphy contests during her first-year stay in Taiwan.
Mukasa often assists other foreign students in learning Chinese language, and took the initiative to be an assistant helping out instructors in teaching the knowledge and skills of Chinese calligraphy during the eve of Chinese New Year in 2022.
