Arguably the world’s first innovative course on metaverse, offered by Soochow University’s General Education Center, started on September 16th, 2022 at Downtown Campus. C-Media Electronics, Inc. donated 30 VR devices Meta Quest 2 for students to gain hands-on experience as its president Eric Cheng personally teaches the class.
As information knowledge has become an indispensable soft power for students in an era of rapid development of technology, the new course, titled “Introductory Skills and Applications for Metaverse Equipment,” aims to teach basic concepts of the metaverse devices and to help students utilize them in their lives in the future.
In the first class of the course, the students wore Meta Quest 2 headsets and held controllers in both hands, trying to complete the assigned tasks or missions. If they encounter any technical or operational difficulties, the instructor Cheng and other classmates would help out and solve the problems together.
In addition to this course, listed as an elective course for all undergraduates, this academic year Soochow also offers another metaverse application course titled “From Blockchain to Metaverse: Introduction and Business Application” as a general education course among more classes about IT industry and future technology in the years to come.
