On September 20th, 2022, over 150 SU students and faculty and staff members enjoyed the screening of S-Girl, Taiwan’s first popular science AI movie, which was presented by Soochow in joint efforts with National Tunghai University, National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), and the Dadushan Society.
Soochow’s Office of Social Resource, Alumni Service, Career Development, and Art Center, and Office of Student Affairs reserved an entire cinema room at Vie Show Cinemas Taipei Qsquare for the soirée, or evening show, hoping to inspire and motivate students to know and learn more about AI.
Before the film started, SU Vice President Bau-Tscheng Dung stressed the school’s recent-year effort in promoting research of big data and AI, and encouraged students to comtemplate the issues involved in the movie from the perspectives of technology and humanity.
Yin-Guo Wang (Class of 1994, Dept. of Physics), the film’s executive producer, talked about his 7-year process of making S-Girl. He also mentioned that the protagonist Tzu-Yu was in the same name as Tzu-Yu Chou, the Taiwanese member of the South Korean girl group TWICE, because both of them worked hard in their fields and created opportunities for themselves.
