Soochow University celebrated its 123rd founding anniversary on March 8th, 2023, with a series of events at Waishauanghsi campus. This year’s festivities included a first-ever “Green Giants Gathering” fair, which aimed to promote sustainability and featured various eco-friendly businesses and clubs showcasing their initiatives through interactive stands.
Gathering for this significant celebration were SU President Wei-Ta Pan, Chairman Shao-Yu Wang, Chairman Hui-Gui Chen of Soochow’s Alumni Association, and many other alumni, including Chi-Chun Lin and Hong-Chao Yeh, both of whom graduated from the Department of Law in 1957 and are now in their nineties.
During the creative march, the team from the Office of General Affairs presented placards written with the four slogans of Soochow’s sustainability features, which were “Food Waste Upcycling,” “Zero Carbon Emissions,” “Green Procurement,” and “Sustainable Campus,” conforming to the global trend and raising the environmental awareness among teachers and students.
In the “Green Giants Gathering” fair, many student clubs and stands offered discounts to those using reusable utensils or containers for food and beverages, encouraging everyone to enjoy tasty food in an eco-friendly way.
This year’s celebration also featured all-star ball games, a Japanese tea party with cherry blossom viewing, an appreciation concert for alumni, and a pop music concert, creating blissful memories for every attendee.
