Many guests gathered to celebrate the book launch, including Chen’s wife and son, SU President Wei-Ta Pan, Vice President Chyan-Long Jan, former interim President Jing-Chang Lin, and other honored guests. Representing the School, Pan thanked Chen for supporting Soochow with many resources along the years.
Chen said that he was glad that he could witness the ups and downs of the shipbreaking industry, and the book recorded what he had experienced over 20 years in the industry. He wished every Soochower the best ability and courage to set sail on their own journey.
As one of the authors who put Chen’s words in paper, Yang drew an analogy between SCU, the abbreviation for Soochow University, and Chen’s career and personal traits: S for success, C for courage, and U for uniqueness.
