After four months of construction work, the originally humble passageway alongside the D building transformed into a scenic boardwalk with a new name: Companion Footpath, and was officially open on March 20th, 2023.

The unveiling ceremony started with music played by students of SU’s Guitar Club and ended with a dance performed by members of the Flying Wild Geese Camp from the Department of Social Work, while many administrative heads of the School and guests made remarks and watched performances.

President Wei-Ta Pan gave special thanks to Friends of Soochow (FOS) and J. T. Tai & Co. Foundation for their long-term support and numerous donations, as the latter has become the largest donor to Soochow after over twenty years of accumulated funds.

The Footpath not only provides beautiful scenery with deciduous cypresses, comfortable walking environment and resting space, but also makes Soochow campus more sustainable as the nameplate and many decorations of the path are made of recycled wood from fallen trees on campus, and the lights along the path are powered by solar energy.

Edward Rada Jr., Chairman of FOS, said he is gratified to see the contribution of the foundation being transferred into such a gorgeous place that provides students with a wonderful strip of area to rest and relax.
