Rallying from one set down against the long-time rival and tournament host National Central University, Soochow University women’s volleyball varsity won the second championship in its team history at the 2023 University Volleyball League (UVL) women’s final on May 1st.
Sheng-Kuo Hsieh, coach of SU women’s volleyball team, mentioned that during their preparation and practice, they overcame many challenges such as injured players and graduating seniors who had trouble practicing on schedule. However, everyone did their best to make time and dedicated themselves into training, which contributed to this year’s remarkable success.
Yu-Ching Chuang, a sophomore of Department of Business Administration, who was also the most valuable player (MVP) in this tournament, indicated that in order to make up for the weaknesses in teamwork, they made adjustments through communicating and reviewing with each other.
Currently, the team’s primary goal is to reach at least the semifinal every year. Coach Hsieh said, “With half of our players graduating this year, the training will mainly focus on improving fundamental skills for our new recruits.”
“Hope that we can play in our best form, keep up the good work, and write a new chapter for SU women’s volleyball team,” Chuang added.
