SCU Varsity Nabs Second Place in Int’l Criminal Court Moot Court Competition

Soochow varsity clinched the second place in the final round of the 2018 International Criminal Court (ICC) Moot Court Competition (Chinese edition) on July 13^th in Hague, the Netherlands. The debate team stood out as the runner-up from a total of 48 teams in the Chinese division, the most in the competition’s history, marking a special achievement as well as a true honor.

Led by Professor Yen-Sen Teng (鄧衍森) of Soochow’s Department of Law and advised by a senior student Chang-Jung Yang (楊長蓉), the team consisted of five law majors: Chia-An Lien (練家安), Yen-Yu Huang (黃彥瑜), Chia-Ling Li (李佳陵), Chia-Chan Cheng (鄭家栴), and Wei-Ning Kao (高維嬣). This was also the first time that Soochow represented Taiwan in the nearly six-moth-long competition, in which Soochow varsity advanced to the final round with the third in the rank of the total scores.

After two hours of the final round held at the International Criminal Court in Hague, the debaters came in second and received the privilege to visit several international organizations, which had broadened the students’ vision and horizon.
