Missionaries of the Methodist church established Soochow University in 1900 the city of Suzhou (formerly spelled Soochow) in Jiangsu Province, China, making it China’s first Western-style university. When it was re-established in Taiwan in 1951, it became the first private university on the island. As befitting its motto, " Unto a full grown man”, Soochow University has also striven to emphasize quality teaching, determined to do its absolute best to produce mature graduates with creative and practical abilities. Looking ahead, with integrated and innovative quality teaching in mind, Soochow University will establish itself as a distinguished and leading institution of higher education in Taiwan!
