When we were freshmen, we had a lot of imagination about the future and were willing to try and challenge everything. However, as time went by, we began to be afraid of the unknown future and to give in to reality which discourages the pursuit of dreams. After several years, when you look back on it all, you will realize the dream you once had has left no trace. So, don’t you want to write down your dream and take action? The Dream Wall was set up on the B Building’s second floor on ShuangXi campus and ChengZhong campus of Soochow University. From April 8, 2015 to May 8, 2015, everyone could come to this wall to recall the dreams and passions they had when they were freshmen.

Many students came to this Dream Wall launched by Shu-Yu Shen and Ruo-Jing Yang of the Dream Wall group. The topic was "before I graduate, I want to…” and everyone was invited to write down the dream they hope to realize before they graduate. The intention was that the words would bring courage to people and give them the power to take action, so that their ideas would not be empty dreams.

The concept of Dream Wall stemmed from Candy Chang, a TED speaker, who delivered a speech on the topic "Before I die, I want to...” an idea come up when she had lost an important person in life. Candy is a creative artist and Taiwan-born American. Therefore, in 2011, she launched an experiment that encouraged people to positively face and share something of their lives by writing down something they wanted to do before they die on a blackboard set up in front of a ruin.

During the activity, some students wrote down warm wishes, such as cherishing the people around you, living happy lives with their families, sharing their own stories by standing in front of a crowd, and so on. When setting up the Dream Wall, a member of the Dream Wall group said, "At first we were afraid that nobody would take part in our activity.” Nevertheless, from the very first day of the Dream Wall, students slowly but surely began taking part. "It is delightful that we have gathered so many comments,” one group member said.

Besides, members also said during the preparation period that some interesting stories had impressed them. Students said this was the first time they nailed wood and painted a blackboard. In order to figure out how to connect three sheets of plywood, they had to make several trips to the hardware shop. And finally, whenever they entered the store, the shopkeeper asked them which kind of screws they wanted. The most touching thing during the preparation period was teamwork. Some pre-senior students, despite being very busy, still stayed up late to meet their deadlines in order to get a perfect result. They hope through the Dream Wall, the dream will never remain a dream. Write it down and get motivated. Do you want to share your dream with others? Go to the Dream Wall and write it down, and pursue it fearlessly.
