SU School of Big Data Launches Workshops on Cloud Tech

On March 13^th, 2021, teachers and students of Soochow’s School of Big Data Management presented their achievement of AWS Educate Student Ambassador Program and offered workshops on Cloud technology to college students across Taiwan in the Taipei session of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educate Ambassador Day TAIWAN, which was co-organized by the School of Big Data and other two universities

During the workshop, student attendees were guided step by step on designing their own works, including Chatbots and personal webpages, while adopting new concepts learnt in courses in practical application.

As one of the AWS Educate Teacher Ambassadors, the School’s Assistant Professor Yun-Cheng Tsai, along with Student Ambassador Wei-Jie Chen, created the AWS Educate Team SCU volunteer community and organized a series of AWS Educate cloud workshops for on- and off-campus activities.

With a continuous concern for trends in society and business, Dean of the School of Big Data Management Professor Chin-Hsiung Hsu said that “We’re in an era full of change, and we never know what would happen next for tomorrow. However, we do know that the future is all about data.”

The AWS Educate platform has integrated the latest industrial technology and knowledge into lectures and has strengthened students’ collaborative skills and practical ability of applying cloud services to financial technology.

The event’s co-organizers, Cloud Innovation School of Feng Chia University and Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering of Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology, also provided the Taichung session on March 7^th, and the Tainan session on March 6^th, respectively.

In this era of rapid change and information explosion, standardized education is not enough for students. What really reinforces students’ abilities is to bring authentic materials and practical scenarios to classes. Cloud computing can help with the goal and overcome the shortcomings of the traditional data center, allowing us to apply services like Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) to practices.
