Congratulates! Soochow Debate Club Was Awarded the Third Place in the fourteenth Chinese-Taiwanese College Students’ Debate Contest

Soochow Debate Club participated in the fourteenth Chinese-Taiwanese college students’ debate contest. There were sixteen elite clubs from mainland China and Taiwan, and Soochow Debate Club was awarded the third prize!

The finals of the fourteenth Chinese-Taiwanese college students’ debate contest were held in Foochow in China. The first prize was awarded to National Taiwan University, the second prize to Sichuan University, and the third prize to Soochow University. The Soochow debate team was composed of six representatives: the leader Yue Zhong, Yu Ting Wu, Hou En Zeng, Zhao Ting Zhang, Gu Wei Pan, Jun Liang Chen. What’s more, Hou En Zeng was also awarded the brilliant debater and Yu Ting Wu was awarded the most popular debater on the Internet.       

In the final debate, the Soochow debate team supported the claim that technological development makes life more complicated, while the debate team from Fujian College of Engineering supported the claim that technological development makes life easier. “Science lets us break nature’s limitation on human beings and do what we long for. It makes our lives richer and more complicated,” said the Soochow debate team, whose logic and debating skills won the judges’ support. The debate team from Fujian College of Engineering was an experienced and worthy opponent, making thought-provoking arguments in the final debate.       

The fourteenth Chinese-Taiwanese college students’ debate contest was held mainly by the Chinese Association for Science and Technology and the Chinese Youth International. There were eight Chinese universities and eight Taiwanese universities participating in the contest. The Taiwanese universities were Soochow University, National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University, Fu Jen Catholic University, Zhongshan University, Taipei University of Technology, Shih Hsin University, and Tamkang University. The Chinese universities were Sichuan University, Shandong Normal University, Northwest University for Nationalities, Fujian University of Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Yunnan University, and Minnan Normal University.
