42 runners from all over the world participated in the 2016 Soochow University International Ultra Marathon. This year, 7 of the top 10 runners in the men’s group and 4 of the top 10 runners in the women’s group are Taiwanese. Compared with previous years, Taiwanese runners have shown a great improvement.

The most amazing dark horse this year, Kang Rui Ting, finished in third place in the men’s group. In Addition, Huang Xiao Chung was awarded third Prize in the women’s group, outrun only by senior Chinese runner Shang Ying and American runner Katalin Nagy. The oldest runner from Taiwan, Huang Quen Peng, whose nickname is “Uncle,” again was able to finish the ultra marathon.

In the press conference after the ultra marathon, Kang Rui Ting mentioned that he didn’t have much time to practice for the Soochow University International Ultra Marathon last year so he didn’t do well. Therefore, he tried his best to prepare for the ultra marathon this year. Huang Xiao Chung had a stomachache and threw up last year, but still won fifth prize. This year, Huang Xiao Chung pointed out that although she was still not 100% healthy, she was able to finish in third place because of the ultra marathon volunteers’ encouragement.

Compared with previous years, Taiwanese runners have shown a great improvement in the 2016 Soochow University International Ultra Marathon. Soochow University hopes that all ultra marathon participants will keep training themselves and break their own records in next year’s ultra marathon.
