Soochow University Department of Accounting Receives Accreditation from CPA Australia

To assist Accounting-major students from Soochow University obtaining international recognition for their professionalism and meeting demands of the global job market, the Department of Accounting has applied and received accreditation from Certified Practicing Accountants Australia (hereinafter referred to as “CPA Australia”), opening a faster track for Soochow students to receive CPA Australia designation as they will now be exempted from taking the entry level foundation exams and go straight for the advanced certificate.

To mark this significant milestone an accreditation ceremony was held at Soochow’s Downtown Campus on April 12th 2017. Notable attendees included Professor Tsu-Tan Fu (Dean, School of Business, Soochow University), Professor Yung-Ming Hsieh (Chairman, Department of Accounting, Soochow University), Associate Professor Yi-Hsuan Wu (Vice Chairman, Department of Accounting, Soochow University), Ms. Deborah Leung (General Manager – Greater China, CPA Australia), Mr. Chung-Ren Lin (Honorary Consultant – Taiwan, CPA Australia), Mr. Yang-Fan Shao (Senior Manager, Taiwan Affairs Department), Mr. Fu-Wei Chen (Chairman, Republic of China Certified Public Accountants), Mr. Hsing-Cheng Tai, CPA (Chairman, International Affairs Committee).

Dean Fu (School of Business) expressed his gratitude to CPA Australia as the accreditation means recognition to the Accounting Department as an important breeding ground for accountants in our nation, and also students from the department can now obtain internationally recognized CPA status even more quickly.

According to Chairman Hsieh (Department of Accounting), the accreditation comes as great news and with immediate benefits to graduates of the Department; they can now apply for CPA Australia membership directly, be exempted from 6 foundational exams, and take the exam here in Taiwan, saving time, money, and trouble for those aiming for international CPA status.

Ms. Deborah Leung expressed the great honor she felt for the opportunity of collaborating with Soochow University. CPA Australia is dedicated to promoting globalization of accounting professionalism and educating future business leaders. Through the comprehensive and internationally recognized CPA Program, Soochow students will be trained into future leaders with global perspectives. To encourage accounting students from Soochow University to enroll in the Program and take the second tier exam those who complete the required coursework will be eligible for a fee discount.

Established in 1886, CPA Australia with over 130 years of history is one of the world’s largest accounting bodies, and also one of the founding members of the International Federation of Accountants, which has over 160,000 members from 118 countries. Here in Taiwan, the four big accounting firms, as well as numerous mid-sized firms are CPA Australia Recognized Employer Partners, and eight Taiwanese universities have received CPA Australia accreditation.
