Chinese Language Center of SCU signed an agreement on November 14, 2017 at Waishaungsi Campus with Ni-Hao Chinese Language Center (你好華語文中心) of the Republic of Nicaragua, one of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies. By enhancing the exchanges of both side, this agreement would serve as yet another opportunity to promote Chinese language after SCU signed a similar pact with a Chinese language center in Jordan in 2014.
SCU Vice-President Wei-Liang Chao said Soochow University is looking forward to exchanging Chinese teaching experiences with Nicaragua. Signing the agreement could allow Nicaraguan students to learn Chinese in SCU and in Taiwan while expanding SCU students’ global vision and promoting Chinese culture. This may create a triple win situation for Chinese language education.
Guan-Yu Chen, CEO of Ni-Hao Chinese Language Center, pointed out that as Nicaragua had very few chances to learn Chinese in the past, he hoped its students could have a great experience of being exposed to Chinese culture through this exchange and cooperation. Chen also welcomed all the students and teachers from Chinese Language Center of SCU to visit Nicaragua and experience the beauty of the nation.
To meet the increasing needs of international communication, Chinese Language Center of SCU was established in 2012. It has cooperated with many foreign universities on providing various Chinese language courses and camps. Former partners include Oklahoma City University, The Citadel, National University of Singapore, and Takushoku University (Japan). The offerings have been a great success with the number of participants on steady rise over the years.
