Chun-Han Yao from the Department of History set Soochow University’s new best record of men’s 5000-meter run with 17 minutes and 51 seconds on November 4, 2017 in the first SCU Athletics Championship, a competitive sports meet, a stage and a cradle for the school’s talented students, faculty and staff in track and field.
Despite the rain, the contestants participated in high spirit in each category. Under the spotlight in this year’s competition were a triathlon team led by Yao, and the SCU’s men’s 400-meter race record holder Po-Wei Huang from the Department of Sociology. Huang said he was glad to hold such athletics events regularly, which may promote the atmosphere for sports.
The director of Office of Physical Education Jei-Der Dong Fang mentioned that although there are no sports related departments in SCU, students have been active and enthusiastic in sports competitions with outstanding results or performances. The Office of PE, he added, will organize more athletic events such as the campus all-star sports games in the future in the hope of encouraging more students to enjoy sports and exercise.
