Soochow Completes Self-Evaluation

On March 23^rd, Soochow University invited a committee of reviewers headed by Dr. Yang Chao-hsiang, President of Fo Guang University, with 9 other experts to visit SCU campus for 2018 self-evaluation. With on-site review, the committee provided practical recommendations to help SCU on improvement.

In his briefing, President Pan elaborated on future vision, self-positioning of SCU, and four major items of evaluation, including management, supporting system, efficiency, and long-term development. The committee took a campus tour accompanied by President Pan and executives.  Professor Wei-Gong Liou form the Department of Sociology explained the concept of Tomorrow Hub. Assistant Professor Jung-Hui Wang of the Department of Chemistry demonstrated flipped classroom. Next, Supervisor of Teaching Development Division Hou-Yi Ting showcased the condition of digital teaching through the virtual studio, and section chiefs of Learning Resources Division and Instructional Technology Division Hsuan-Ying Chuang and Yen-Chih Chang together illustrated the environment of student self-study, and results from Data Analytical Center. Director and staff Ming-Hsia Li and Pi-Chin Chang from Public Service Division demonstrated the compact shelves in the library. And lastly, Chair of Music Department Professor Gwang-Lin Peng gave a guided tour in the world-class auditorium.

The Committee started interviews of executives and staff, faculty and students after a short lunch break to better understand the actual situation and to deliver a formal report with specific suggestions for Soochow University to be able to bring out concrete plans for improvement.

Thanks are due to the cooperation of students, teachers, and all divisions for the successful completion of this evaluation. On December 6^th and 7^th 2018, Soochow University will have the official evaluation by Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council of Taiwan as delegated by the Ministry of Education. With the help from all Soochow family members we will once again pass the evaluation successfully.
