Visitors from Suzhou on SCU Campus

On 19 January 2018 Soochow University in Taiwan (SCU) extended a warm welcome to delegates from our sister Soochow University (Suda) of Suzhou, China for further exchange and cooperation between the two schools.  

SCU’s welcoming party was headed by Wei-Liang Chao, Vice President of SCU, and included Ji-Ren Liu, Chairperson of Soochow University Alumni Association, Shu-Fang Wang, Secretary General and Dean of Social Resources, Special Commissioner of the President’s Office and Director of Cross-Strait Affairs Center Yu-Mei Wang, General Consultant of Soochow University Alumni Association Shih-Sheng Liu, Director of Office of Physical Education Jie-De Dongfang, and Head of Office of Physical Education Teaching Division Jing-Yao Huang. 

Receiving the warm welcome were guests under the leadership of Yong Jiang, Secretary of the CPC Committee and Director of Assembly of Fellows of Soochow University (Suda), Jia-Hong Wang, Secretary of Collaborative Innovation Center for Sport Industry of Jiangsu, Yong-Shan Wang, Secretary of the CPC Committee of School of Business and Director of Assembly of Fellows of Dongwu Business School, Director of Development Committee Office Yang Chao, Deputy Director of Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Hsiang Ju, and Director of Alumni Association of Development Committee Office Wen-Wen Kuan.

Vice President of SCU (Taiwan) Wei-Liang Chao expressed hope that the two universities with the close historical ties and interactions would be able to keep the diversified and solid cooperation. Chairperson of Soochow University Alumni Association Ji-Ren Liu urged that in addition to academic exchanges among students and faculty more communication should also be carried out between the alumni associations for both to learn from each other.

Currently 16 students from Suda and Wenzheng College are studying in SCU. Secretary Jiang pointed out that it has been 25 years since a visiting group headed by SCU President Hsiao-Tzu Chang called on Suda, officially signed academic exchange agreement, and started our first communication. During these years, SCU and Suda attended each other’s 100th anniversary celebrations, held school history seminars, signed protocol for exchange and interaction in many aspects. Moreover, he also expressed the desire that both schools could jointly hold the 120th anniversary in 2020, scale up inter-school tournaments, and share academic and historical resources about Soochow University.

On the second day of visit Suda delegation also went to Changhua for the inaugural ceremony of the first Suda Alumni Association in Taiwan, making it the sixtieth branch of Soochow University Alumni Association, and blessed with the presence of Shu-Fang Wang, Secretary General and Dean of Social Resources on behalf of SCU President Wei-Ta Pan.
