Soochow Nabs Prizes in 2019 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games

Soochow University students showed a strong outing in the 2019 National Intercollegiate Athletic Games held On April 27^th in the athletics field of the National Chung Cheng University. The total awards including one gold medal, two bronze medals, one 4^th place, five 5^th place, one 6^th place, and six 8^th place. The events SCU took part in included table tennis, badminton, tennis, swimming, athletics, gymnastics, fencing, karate, judo, and taekwondo.

In the aspect of school varsities, in the general division of table tennis, Wei-Cheng Weng (Department of History) and You-Tai Gao (Department of Accounting) finished solid among 100 teams, winning the 8^th place in men's double. In the general division of badminton, Yi-Ting Xie (Department of Financial Engineering and Actuarial Mathematics), Meng-Xin Luo and Li-Xuan Lu (Department of Business Administration), Yi-Han Huang and Si-Yu Lu (Department of Law), Yin-Ting Lin (School of Big Data Management), Zhi-Yu Wu (Department of Economics), Xin-Yu Jiang (Department of Accounting), and Yi-Ting Xie (Department of German Language and Culture) won the 8^th place.

In the general division of swimming, Ru-Ning Wu (Department of Chinese Literature) won the gold medal in the 50-meter freestyle event. Xin-Yu Zhan (Department of Computer Science and Information Management) won the bronze medal in 50-meter butterfly event. In the general division of field and track, Yu-Xin Liu (School of Big Data Management) won the 5^th place in the 1500-meter track event.

In the aspect of sports clubs, Zhi-Xuan Qiu won the 5^th place in women’s karate (general division). An-Qi Chen won three 8^th place in the gymnastics. Bo-Zhen Li won the 5^th place in the Vault. Ming-Fang Hou won the 3^rd place in individual saber of Fencing. Yao-Wen Liang won the 5^th place in individual foil of Fencing, and Feng-Ming Zhang, Yao-Wen Liang, You-Jun Li, and Bai-Cheng Ji won the 6^th place in team foil of Fencing.

Jie De Dong Fang, the Director of Office of Physical Education, expressed his gratitude to You-Cai Liu, Jian-Rong Zhu, Yi-Ren Huang, Wen-Rui Liao, Jing-Qing Chen, Qiao-Ying Chen, Ying-Liang Lin, Zheng-Yu Wu and Hui-Fang Wu for their coaching to the students for this year’s competitions. He also thanked all the students and teachers involved, as well as Hui-Gui Chen, President of Soochow’s Varsity Support Association, and many alumni, whose encouragement and help can serve as the foundation for Soochow students’ better performances in the next year.
