Soochow University’s Alumni Association launched its public welfare day with an exhibition as a philanthropic campaign to raise the awareness of promoting social well-being. In a press conference on February 20th, 2019 to make the event more widely known, director-general of the Association Ji-Ren Liu urged all the Soochow alumni home and abroad to contribute their part as a way to repay the society.

News anchor and meteorologist Shu-Li Wang (Soochow alumna of Dept. of German Culture, class of 1994) was invited as the event’s embassador. By sharing her experiences in promoting public welfare and doing charities, Wang encouraged everyone to pitch in a little to show the spirit of philanthropy to more people in need in every corner of the society where the government agencies may not be able to reach.

The Association also planned to launch a series of social messaging stickers of the campaign mascot Soochow Hearty (東吳小愛), and would donate all the revenue from the sales of the stickers to further promotion of public welfare.

The Association’s Honorary director-general Song-Chang Tang hoped that all the teachers, students and alumni could remember always giving back for what they have received. SCU President Wei-Ta Pan also pointed out the importance of moral education in making oneself a full grown man, which should be manifested and carried out through helping and caring about others.

Toward the end of the opening ceremony of the exhibition, three visually-impaired students of Soochow University, Bo-Hong Shen, Wen-Qian Luo and Shi-Peng Wang presented a song You Are My Eyes as an appropriately fitting note, hoping to inspire more people to see the world in a more caring angle.
