On October 26th, 2018, Soochow University signed an agreement for education strategic alliance and dorm building rental with Taipei Shixin High School (renamed as Taipei YouHua High School in December 2018). Starting 108 Academic Year, the University is expected to offer about 600 more dorm beds for its students to address their accommodation needs.
The agreement was co-signed by SCU President Wei-Ta Pan and Shixin High School Principal Po-Hui Shih, pursuing to establish a mechanism of integrated application and mutual benefits on sharing teaching, research and administrative resources between the two schools. Pan stated that under the constraints of Soochow’s limited campus space, the University has been looking for off-campus buildings as dorms to accommodate more students.
Shih mentioned that the negotiation process had been stalled for some problems, but fortunately good outcomes were reached eventually. Shih also presented Pan a cake for the newborn and a bottle of aged sorghum wine, hoping the cooperation between the two schools will be successful and long-lasting.
Taipei YouHua (Shixin) High School is near Beitou MRT station, a convenient location to and from Soochow’s Waishuangsi Campus. In the future, Soochow and YouHua will cooperate more by sharing administrative and teaching resources, such as seminar lectures, admission counseling, campus visits and pre-university courses, to provide the high school graduates a broader vision and a smoother college life.
