Soochow University women’s volleyball team nabbed the fourth place in the B-level division at the 2019 University Volleyball League (UVL) tournament. The remarkable result put Soochow among at least the top four spots in the UVL for four consecutive years.

Under the coaching of Sheng-Guo Xie, who took charge as head coach since 2016, the players overcame the disadvantage in height and other physical conditions, and beat many strong opponents by their outstanding skills and positive team spirit. Winning the fourth place once again marked the continuation of Soochow’s excellent tradition in women’s volleyball for many years.

This year’s success must be ascribed to the school’s strong support for the team, and the guidance and encouragement from the director of the Office of Physical Education Dong Fang Jie De, coaches Meng-Xian Lin, Jing-Yao Huang, and many others. The help and advice from the Soochow University women's volleyball team alumni association led by President Xue-Ling Zhang, as well as Soochow University sports team support group, have also played a crucial role.  They have been holding alumni volleyball games every year, which allow student and alumni players to sharpen their skills, strengthen their bonds, and pass along the spirit of the women's volleyball team.

With a history of over 30 years, SCU women’s volleyball team had been led by coach Meng-Xian Lin for a long time and won the first place and second place in UVL in 1991 and 1992. With their excellent training program and effort, the team has been always among the top 8 in the country in the B-level division of UVL. It is hoped that SCU women’s volleyball team can uphold its modesty and enthusiasm, pass on the spirit of teamwork, perseverance, continue its strong performance with courage and wisdom, and pursue more glory for Soochow in the future.
