SCU Shares Experience in Fighting COVID-19 in Cross-Strait Video Conference

Representing Soochow University, SCU Vice President Bau-Tscheng Dung exchanged views with administrative heads from other 23 universities in greater Chinese region on May 20, 2020 through a video conference held by Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU).

The online seminar was a special meeting among universities in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao to share experiences in their prevention and control measures of COVID-19 on campus, as well as how schools may continue their exchange and cooperation during and in the aftermath of the coronavirus outbreak.

SCU Director of Cross-Strait Affairs Center Yu-Mei Wang was also invited to the discussion with representatives from prestigious universities including Peking University, Fudan University, Tsinghua University, The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, University of Macau, National Taiwan University, National Chiao Tung University.

Vice President Dung introduced Soochow’s anti-coronavirus measures with a theme of “how to protect the campus from COVID-19 and facilitate the teaching and learning during the epidemic,” such as carefree learning plan, and guidance for overseas students, which all showed the school’s collective efforts in fighting against the virus.

Other participating universities also shared about how they have been making full use of cloud technology for distance learning and online meeting. For example, The Chinese University of Hong Kong has proposed the concept of “Virtual Exchange Class,” hoping to optimize interactive courses and create new teaching models.

Through this conference, it is found that whether it’s from the perspective of research and development of software and hardware, the continuation of cooperation, or even the efforts by teachers and students, all these universities have demonstrated their responsibility and their value in striving for the quality of higher education.
