Two English intensive programs offered by SU’s School of Business had recently helped many of the 80 students improve their performance in TOEIC, setting a largest score difference of 325 points (from the original 595 points to the latest 920 points).

In the program of "Advanced International Communication English," which marked its sixth consecutive year since 2018, the TOEIC listening and reading test scores of the entire class this year had improved from 680 to 777 points, showing an average improvement of 97 points after four weeks’ training.

Seven students scored 860 points or more (the highest level in the listening and reading test); twenty-four students scored 785 points or more (equivalent to B2 level or higher in CEFR); twenty-two students improved by more than 100 points.

In the program of "Practical Workplace English," over one third of the students scored 160 points or more (equivalent to B2 level or higher in CEFR) in the TOEIC speaking test after three weeks of intensive training. Two students scored over 180 points (the highest level) with up to 40 points of improvement.

In order to enhance English learning and accumulate cultural knowledge of students, Soochow organized events that facilitated language exchange of Chinese and English among Taiwanese students and foreign students. The two intensive programs also invited experts and English test-givers to provide students with preparation tips and feedback on their oral fluency and English business presentation performance.

These impressive results should be attributed not only to the professional teachers and teaching assistants who provided instructions and guidance throughout the process, but also to the official ETS prep center Zhongxin Co., Ltd. for its long-term sponsorship to SU in conducting the English proficiency pre-tests, and to numerous alumni for their support and donated funds to the intensive courses.
