Soochow University introduced itself to over 2,000 high school students and their parents with a seminar titled "Meet Soochow—Winning Strategies for College Applications." The Taipei seminar spanned four venues at the Waishuangxi campus on April 13, followed by another session in Taichung on April 20 at the Splendor Hotel.
Led by SU President Chyan-Long Jan and supported by faculty from six colleges, the events provided detailed information about Soochow as well as comprehensive insights into the application process, while the majority of participants expressed tremendous interest in the university.
Jan emphasized Soochow’s 124-year history and its network of over 150,000 alumni home and abroad, highlighting the school’s solid foundation and commitment to educational excellence. He assured attendees that Soochow offers a strong academic environment now without the hindrance of geographical distance as Taiwan's high-speed rail makes the school more accessible.
Dean of Academic Affairs Fang-Shu Chan explained how government subsidies have made higher education more affordable and stressed that applicants should focus on education quality rather than location when choosing the right school. Admissions Officer Hsiu-Chen Chen outlined the key dates and details for the 2024 application schedule and offered practical advice.
In the first part of the event, Professor Wen-Pin Liu from the Department of Financial Engineering and Actuarial Mathematics shared strategies for creating strong application materials and preparing for interviews. His insights provided attendees with practical tips, boosting their confidence in navigating the admissions process.
The second part focused on exploring academic programs in depth. Faculty from Soochow’s six colleges—including Humanities and Social Sciences, Foreign Languages, Science, Big Data Management, Law, and Business—gave detailed presentations on their programs, helping students and parents know about the strengths and opportunities within each discipline.
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, mostly showing increased interest in Soochow University and appreciation for the practical and helpful information provided. The seminars offered participants a closer look and left a strong impression at Soochow’s learning environment.
