Soochow University’s goodwill ambassador team (known as Friendship Ambassador) is set to serve as National Day protocol receptionists for the third consecutive year, following rigorous recruitment, year-long training, and multiple rounds of evaluation. The ambassadors will be stationed in the South II section to receive foreign dignitaries, providing language assistance, guest coordination, and on-site support, according to team representatives and university officials.
Team captain Su-Ching Chang, a junior in political science, explained that new members train weekly for an entire year before becoming official ambassadors. “Our instruction covers posture, protocol reception, international etiquette, and public speaking, taught by specialists from inside and outside the university.” Members also complete summer sessions in physical conditioning, basic first aid, crisis-response drills, and service-procedure simulations.
Vice captain Ting-Ying Sung, a senior majoring in English, said their assigned sector will mainly host foreign dignitaries invited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). To prepare, the ambassadors strengthened their foreign-language greetings and reception skills. She added that students from English, Japanese, and German departments hope to apply their language abilities throughout the ceremony.
For the event, ambassadors will wear modified red-and-black qipaos symbolizing the school’s spirit of passion and perseverance. The uniforms feature a custom “SCU” collar clasp to present a polished appearance that aligns with National Day protocol standards.
Senior international business major Shih-Chin Kuo, now serving in the role for the third year, shared that prior experience has helped the team work seamlessly during high-pressure moments. He said that repeated participation, coupled with comprehensive preparation, has strengthened the ambassadors’ confidence and responsiveness during National Day duties.
Soochow President Chyan-Long Jan expressed gratitude to faculty members for supporting the team’s preparation and encouraged the ambassadors to represent the university with professionalism, poise, and pride throughout the event.
