Soochow University (SU) recently presented the Wenhua Scholarship at an award ceremony for the 2025–2026 cademic year, highlighting its efforts in cultivating interdisciplinary talent in data science and artificial intelligence (AI). The event brought together faculty and students to celebrate outstanding achievements, reflecting SU’s continued commitment to integrating data, AI, and cross-disciplinary education.
The Wenhua Scholarship was initiated through a donation by former Academia Sinica President Chang Shan-Cheng. It supports SU’s College of Big Data Management in advancing teaching innovation, academic research, and AI talent development. The program also encourages students and faculty to respond to the challenges of the AI era and connect academic learning with real-world needs.
This year, multiple awards were conferred to recognize both student and faculty achievements. Student awards included academic excellence, competition performance, and research achievement. Many recipients were actively engaged in AI applications, data analysis, interdisciplinary projects, and external competitions, demonstrating their ability to apply classroom knowledge in practice.
Faculty awards included research and teaching guidance awards, recognizing instructors’ contributions to academic research, innovative teaching design, and their efforts in mentoring students for competitions.
In his remarks, Chang noted that AI has become a key driver of national competitiveness and social development. He emphasized that higher education should not only transmit knowledge, but also equip students with the ability to solve problems using AI, engage in interdisciplinary integration, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
SU stated that the Wenhua Scholarship not only provides financial support but also reflects strong social trust in AI education. Looking ahead, the university will continue promoting AI-related courses, interdisciplinary projects, and industry collaboration, aiming to cultivate talents with both professional expertise and technological literacy.
