Eight Soochow University students enhanced their international communication skills through a 14-day winter program at Takushoku University from January 25th to February 7th, 2026. The program aimed to support the university’s internationalization efforts while strengthening students’ global competence through immersive language and cultural learning.
The two-week program combined intensive morning language training with afternoon field-based learning activities. Students visited key sites such as the National Diet Building (Japan’s parliament), the Imperial Palace, and the Tokyo National Museum, gaining insight into Japan’s political, cultural, and historical contexts.
Beyond these institutional visits, students also explored local culture in Asakusa and participated in a hands-on food sample workshop in Ikebukuro. These experiences allowed them to observe the interaction between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary urban life.
The program also included designated free exploration periods, encouraging students to plan their own itineraries and engage more independently with the city. This component helped develop their adaptability and confidence in cross-cultural communication through direct interaction with local residents.
The successful completion of the program not only reflects Soochow University’s ongoing commitment to international education, but also further strengthens its partnership with Takushoku University. Through this immersive experience, students gained a broader global perspective and developed the communication skills and cultural awareness essential for engaging with the international community.
