In March 2026, Soochow University’s School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences initiated a cross-institutional project that integrates artificial intelligence with cultural heritage, in collaboration with the National Palace Museum (NPM) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). The initiative also brings together Wesley Girls High School and Dazhi High School, forming a multi-level partnership that spans universities and secondary education.

Titled Reimagining Heritage in the AI Era: Interactive Digital Narratives for the National Palace Museum, the project was proposed by Dean Chien-Kuo Mi of SU and Hsieh Chun-Ko, Director of the Digital Information Department at NPM. It focuses on transforming museum collections into interactive digital storytelling experiences through the use of AI technologies.

As part of the project, WPI student teams are producing short videos based on NPM artifacts featuring horse imagery. By combining traditional cultural elements with AI-generated visuals, the works explore new forms of virtual interaction and audience engagement.

Students from SU and the participating high schools are also contributing to the project through independent productions and research, each bringing distinct creative perspectives to the shared theme.

The resulting works will be featured in the upcoming NPM AI Playground, set to open this fall at the museum’s Northern Branch Second Exhibition Gallery. Designed as an immersive exhibition space, the installation integrates digital technology with artistic presentation to reframe historical artifacts for contemporary audiences.

Selected student works from Soochow and the participating high schools may also be included in the exhibition. Beyond creative production, the project offers hands-on experience in digital storytelling while expanding public access to innovative forms of cultural interpretation.
