Thirty minutes experiencing a race “I run, I complete”

“3, 2, 1…Go! Let’s start the 2015 Soochow University International Ultra-marathon!” Soochow University president, Pan, Wei-Da, led the first level managers and honorable guests to began this 24-hour grand event.

Besides, the 24 hours tournament, President Pan led the honored guests, alumni, and faculty members gathered at the outer track to run for 30 minutes, experiencing a race at the same time. One of the high-profile honored guests was the honorary chairman of our Alumni Association, Tang Song-Zhang. Although he is already 87 years old, Mr. Tang went to bed at 2:00 a.m. last night. Yet he was still in a good fettle to join the competition. In addition, all the members of Yulon Dinos hoped that Zeng Jhih-Long, the only Cerebral Palsy participant, would inspire and encourage physically disadvantaged groups. The leader of Yulon, Lyu Jheng-Ru, and their members, Jhih-Jhong, Guo Chao-Nan, and Liu Ding-Wei, also mentioned that the team intended to donate 100 dollars after every lap he ran to the Doers Cultural And Educational Fundationin.

After thirty minutes of experiencing the race, one of the Yulon members, Zhou Shih-Yuan said: “The contestants are very persevering! If I ran for 20 minutes, I would feel tired, not to mention 24 hours. Most of the athletes are 40 to 50-year-old. I really esteem their spirit.” Ding-Wei Liu said: “It is not difficult to run for 30 minutes because we are still young. However, it is not easy for those elder athletes to run for 24 hours. I admire them the most.” They cheered for them and hoped they could stick it out.

Additionally, Chen Tiao-Ting, an alumnus of the Mathematics Department and the sponsor of RFID, stated “The Soochow University International Ultra-marathon brings a lot of advantages in different aspects. Exercise is beneficial for our health and so many people take part in this event. Their persevering spirit inspires us to learn from them.”

Later president Pan was interviewed by VAMOS, noting “Things tend to go smoothly at the beginning. However, how to persevere and break down the wall is quite tough.” He hopes this International Ultra-marathon encourages students to exercise. This 30 minutes of experiencing the race not only gave people the chance to experience the International Ultra-marathon but also increased the competitive atmosphere at Soochow University. With no doubt, Soochow University is the leader of this sporty trend.
